The sun is not always shining in beautiful Port Macquarie. In fact, the seaside climate sometimes makes for some pretty bad rain storms.
While Port Macquarie is known most for being a great outdoor destination, that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to do when it’s not so beautiful out. From museums and restaurants to indoor active spaces and more, there’s still tons to do in Port Macquarie when it’s raining.
Take a look at our list of the top five things to do in Port Macquarie when it’s raining. Did we mention your favorite indoor activity? If so, leave a comment!
Quiet Time – with a good book
Sometimes when it’s raining, it’s best to stay indoors and curl up with a good book.
Thankfully we have a great library in Port Macquarie. Home to tons of materials, computers, and quiet spaces, you’ll be hard pressed to not find what you’re looking for. In addition, the beautifully rendered modern environs themselves are an attraction.
There are tons of events that take place here – author talks, lessons, and more all can be had. See their website here for more information.
Get fit – anytime!
When the rain clouds darken your day, it’s time to lighten your mood with some movement!
It’s a well-studied fact that exercise can help beat the rainy day blues. Movement causes the creation of dopamine, a neurochemical that makes us feel good.
Our suggestion for a great indoor fitness facility is Anytime Fitness. They have great facilities, friendly staff, and have tons of locations all over Australia. Get more information here.
Catch a game, shoot a hoop
Sporting events are always a fun time, especially when you go with someone special. When the rain forces you to stay inside, you can catch a sporting event at the Port Macquarie Indoor Stadium.
This stunning basketball court is great to catch a game or shoot some hoops of your own. Bring your court shoes and start working on your free throw!
Get a dose of history
Port Macquarie is an old town. That means there’s tons of history to explore!
When it’s raining, there’s almost no better time to explore this history with a friend, a date, or just by yourself. Two great spots to check out are the Port Macquarie historic courthouse and the St. Thomas Anglican Church.
Both locations have a ton of history behind them – we won’t spoil it here – so you can spend your time learning about how the locations have changed, and what’s stayed the same.
A rainy day cup of tea
Whether it’s raining or not, it’s always nice to get out of the house. Instead of staying at home, take advantage of tons of coffee and tea shops in downtown Port Macquarie to watch the rain, read a book, or catch up on homework and emails.
Our favorite cafe in Port Macquarie is Gloris Jean Horton Street. It’s got a modern aesthetic that can’t be beat, and tons of delicious goodies to keep you warm during the long rain.
In conclusion, while there’s more fun to be had on a bright and sunny day, there’s no shortage of things to do in Port Macquarie when it’s raining.
