The BEST five beaches in Port Macquarie
Port Macquarie, aside from being known as a great vacation spot, is a town of beaches. The calm waters of the Pacific Ocean are an integral part of the relaxing feel of Port Macquarie beaches, and the sheer number makes it the envy of many other seaside towns.
But not all beaches are created equal. That’s why we’ve put together a list of the five best beaches in Port Macquarie with a focus on swimming, strolling, activities, and more.

Lake Cathie Beach
Lake Cathie Beach is a picturesque Port Macquarie beach perfect for family outings. With amenities including inflatable slides and trampolines in the summer, swimming is not the only thing to do at Lake Cathie.
There are also tons of takeaway food stands, and picnic amenities to enjoy your food – whether buying or bringing in your basket! Throw in a bowling club nearby and a full playground and you have the makings of a great outdoor family day.
Town Beach
Are you a surfer? Then Town Beach will be the best pick for you!
When the winds are coming from any direction, you’ll have great conditions for a refreshing and exhilarating surf. Some waves reach over two meters for the perfect ride. There’s also ample parking, shower facilities, and picnic areas for a great day with loved ones or friends.
Shelly Beach
For a breathtaking tidal lagoon, Shelly Beach is perfectly suited for those waterside photo opportunities. Lush rainforests run along the coast as well, so you can enjoy the best of both worlds – either sit in contemplation on one of the beach’s benches or take a quick hike!
The currents here are stronger than other Port Macquarie beaches, so it’s not advisable to swim at Shelly Beach.
North Beach
If you’re looking for a quiet beachside getaway, you can’t do any better than North Beach. An isolated beach accessible by ferry, many people find this Port Macquarie beach a great spot for meditation, yoga, and more. The beach is also accessible by car from Queens Head, where a picnic area provides space for a calming afternoon lunch.
North Beach is also great for fishing and four-wheeling, so pack your tackle box!
Nobby Beach
This dog-friendly beach is popular for walks and runs with man’s best friend. Couple that with breathtaking rock formations and you have a perfect postcard moment!
